Essential Goal Setting Tips

Maximize Your Time Managment Results With These Simple Techniques

The best goals are clear ones. It you were an archer, would be your goal? It would be to hit the target as close to the center as possible. What if you missed by an inch? You'd know you were close because your orignal goal was clear.

Some suggest the S.M.A.R.T. approach to setting goals.Goal Setting -- Aim For Your Target

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Rewarding
  • Timely

Goals are for you. They represent your dreams and desires. When they are clearly defined, you can see them in your mind. Being able to visual a goal is critical in giving you the necessary focus to make your moves towards that goal.

If your goal was to go to the store, would you rather take roads that lead you towards the store or away from them?

Obviously you would want to head towards the store. After all, it's your goal!

Make Your Goal Specific

Zig Ziglar once said "Would you prefer to be a meaningful specific, or a wandering generality?" Goal setting needs to be specific to help you clearly see what you want to achieve.

Write Your Goals. Get them onto paper and make them real through invocation.

A real goal is one you can see. When you can envision yourself achieving that goal, you can make it a reality.

Put your subconscious to work and review your goals every night and every morning. Update them when necessary and don't be afraid to update them or make them even more specific as your experience with setting goals improves.

Set a Measureable Goal

How will you know when you have met your goal? How will you know when you are closer to it? Some goals may seem difficult to measure, but that's only a reason to take measurement of your goals seriously. If you can't measure how close you are, you can't know when you'll get there or what you can do to speed the pace. Effective time management stems from measurable goals so don't skip this important step.

Plan Attainable Goals

Reach for the stars! Napoleon Hill once said, "what the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve." To attain your goal, it must be clear in your mind. This doesn't mean you should lower your aim, but instead take the extra effort to ensure that you have a clear vision, combined with the strong desire to achieve.

The Achievement for your Goal Setting Should Be Rewarding

Have you ever noticed how good you feel when you check off an item on your to do list? Your brain likes to complete things and studies have shown that the brain releases Dopamine during these "completion rituals." Setting clear goals and then completing actions which take you closer to that goal is a very rewarding experience. Keep this in mind and feel rewarded as you approach your goal. You don't need to wait until you're all the way there.

Your Goals Should Be Timely

Have a clear timeframe for your goals. Sure it's possible you make not make them, but how would you know if you didn't have a timeframe as a part of your goal setting strategy? If your goal is worth setting then it should also be worth setting a timeline for it as well. This will also allow you to plan the actions required and better predict if you need to work harder, or more quickly, if you want to make your time goal.

While the steps required for getting what you want are simple, they are not always easy. It takes practice. It takes doing. Fortunately there are excellent systems which can help you create the results you desire. Visit here for more details.
